Human-AI Collaboration in the Age of Agency

The rise of agentic intelligence marks a paradigm shift in how humans interact with machines. No longer passive tools, agentic systems are becoming  active collaborators capable of reasoning, adapting, and co-creating. This chapter explores the emerging dynamics of human-AI collaboration, where trust, delegation, and shared agency redefine the boundaries of work and creativity. Agents as Teammates, Not Tools Traditional automation systems were designed to execute predefined tasks. Agentic systems, however, possess autonomy, memory, and decision-making capabilities. This transforms their role from  tools  to  teammates : Proactive Contribution : Agents can suggest strategies, identify risks, and even challenge human decisions. Context Awareness : They understand goals, constraints, and evolving environments, enabling nuanced collaboration.
